Blessing Barn was started back in May of 2005. The
intent we started with was that of helping those in need, figuring it out as we went.
We actually began as Blessing Basket, working out of our home, and received
our letter of determination in May of 2005. Within the first year,
we were asked by another Blessing Basket to change our name. We changed
it to Blessing Barn and trademarked the
name in the classifications of giving away clothing and furniture to those in need.
We view ourselves as a benevolent organization, founded on Christian
principles, including that of providing a "cup of cold water" to
those in need. We are here to assist any church's benevolence department,
as well as local agencies, or even corporations if they have someone in need in
their employ.
As well, we will assist anyone who crosses our path through any means.
Many county agencies refer clients to us, as well as some of the shelters and PADS sites in
the area. Even though we are small, with limited resources, and fly under
the radar, we are viewed as a valuable resource for these agencies.
We have dedicated ourselves to stocking supplies that can meet the basic life
needs of those in need;
clothing
bedding
kitchenware
household items
furniture *now limited due to storage space
These supplies come to us through a very generous community of, but
not limited to;
individual donors
corporate donors
churches, and church groups
estate sale companies
Girl Scout troops
Boy Scout troops
Many business's who have decided to close their doors have donated their
remaining inventory to us.
We currently, as of December 2011, assist 60 to 80 families per month,
handing out an average of to 80-100 bags of clothing and miscellaneous
household items each month. We estimate we gave away over 3,000 bags of clothes, over 30 sofas, over
20 dining sets, over 50 dressers, as well as truckload after truckload of other
miscellaneous furniture in 2010.
Our assistance is for the long term for our recipients, some who have been with
us from the start.
We realize our site presents only basic information at
this point. We do intend on expanding it eventually.
Please be aware that we are dedicated to helping those
in need in our local McHenry county area, and sometimes beyond. Of
course, if you have any questions about us, what we do, and how we can help
you, or someone in need, please contact us by phone or e-mail.
*We are a 501(c)3 non profit organization. Donations
are tax deductible. A receipt will be provided if requested.
